The 23rd Thing

Hooray! Mission completed. Survey done. Am I eligible for the prize draw? Maybe not - I have to admit that I have only basically, somehow selectively, explored and experimented this amazing programme of new technologies, however it has indeed opened my eyes to the emerging sophisticated technologies on the Internet today. I guess this Web 2.0 journey has "transformed" me a bit, from someone who didn't fancy the idea of blogging (a waste of time relating to whoever is out there..) to someone who is willing to devote some precious time to play around on the blogs and enjoys reading others' blogs too.

Apart from the fun side, more importantly the online knowledge and experience gained will certainly benenfit me as an individual in this information explosion era, which will as well positively enhance my customer service and support my work in the library profession.

Project Completed

Week 9 (part 2) - eBooks

I had a look at the Project Gutenberg website, which I think is useful to those who are after a classic as the site mainly hosts books that have expired. The collection of over 100,000 titles is huge and there are also books in different languages. (I was pleased to find some "hard-to-find" Chinese works there.) Apart from ebooks, there are audio books, cds and dvds for free downloading too.

Then I looked at a couple of podcast directories, not bothering to add a podcast feed to my bloglines cuz that's not my cuppa. And I guess now I could announce that my journey of the Learning 2.0 project has come to an end!

Week 8 - Online Applications

As I could not access Zoho Writer without a sign-in username and password, I looked at Google Docs with my google sign-in. This tool is really useful because you can upload a document from your desktop to edit and share the document online with your friends, without the hassles of saving onto a disc, or having problems converting to a compatible file type. I really think these web-based applications are wonderful as they allow much more flexibility, convenience and functions than the traditional word-processing.

Week 7 - Social Networking

I am a frequent user of Facebook, which is really a wonderful channel to enable me to view the recent photos of my family and friends who are living overseas. We can also communicate by adding comments, inbox messages etc. There are lovely ideas like sending each other e-gifts too!
I also had a look at Bebo and Myspace, and reckon that they are similar social networking services. I'll keep using Facebook as it looks more user-friendly to me although the teens might think its home page not as cool as the other two.

Week 6 -Tagging

Tagging makes it very easy for people to locate information they are after on weblogs through the links tagged. A weblog differs from a website in the way that it is updated frequently, most often displaying its material in journal-like chronological dated entries or posts. Most blogs allow readers to post comments, and the content can be published and syndicated separate from the formatting using an RSS feed. Readers can subscribe to the feed to automatically receive updates.

Technorati is the leading monitor of the world of weblogs. It is a real-time search engine and a leading monitor of the world of weblogs. I had a brief tour in Technorati and was amazed at how much it can do and offer!

Week 9 (part 1) - Video

I have no problems uploading a video to my blog, and decided to jump to Week 9 because I just came across a very interesting video clip on YouTube - you can peel a boiled egg in just a few seconds (though your guests might not like the idea). Have a go!

Wiki Exercise

It's amazing how anyone can easily add an entry to a wiki website, the combined effort of whom could create a huge database; however I don't think I would be happy one day when I see that the information I posted on a wiki looks different as anyone can also easily edit my material! Anyway I've chosen to post a Chinese dumplings recipe onto https://manukaulearn.pbwiki.com/Favourite+Recipes

Week 5 - Wiki

So wiki is a site where you or anybody else can add or edit information on a topic of your interest, and you can set up your own new wiki. The examples of wiki out there are just overwhelming. They are really useful cuz they provide collective knowledge and experiences which people post on the wiki to share with others. However the down side is that the information might not be well grounded as it is added by any individuals. So a good wiki site has to be one that is under some professional control.

Librarything

Uploaded my Librarything Catalogue. Got some good book titles on my favourite topics: simplicity in life, happiness and good health. The Blogging book might be helpful to those new to blogging. Umm having done quite a bit on the programme now, starting to feel why bloggers have got addicted to the cyberworld - it's just such an unlimited universe out there!!

Image Generator

Chosen FD TOYS to work on my Image Generator. Very cool images in the list. U would love them. Does my image brighten your day? Smiles and laughters are good medicines to many problems, be they mental or physical. Try a dose if u feel the need:-)

Here I come (from far behind)!

Just chosen 10 interesting feeds - really far behind (but guess pardonable cuz I am a casual, who basically wouldn't have the time at work to do the programme). So yay, done it:-) Colleagues said Week 2 was the most difficult (and frustrating for a newbie on Blogging like me), and once u got through it, a fun path was on the way. Starting to get the feeling!

Newbie on board

A newbie on the Blog, very cloudy:-(
Oh I spent soooooo much time studying the instructions (a serious learner, ain't I?), fiddling around, exploring, clicking here and there, looking in all the links, and eventually didn't know where I had landed in my cyberspace travels. Doing all this at home cuz definitely would get fired if I did it at work. All of a sudden remember a colleague said she got her home computer crashed having "fun" on the programme, umm I should give my computer a break....
